It is with mixed emotions and great appreciation that we announce the retirement of Building Systems’ founder and President, George Stone. After forming Building Systems in 1983, George formally retired on April 30, 2021. His retirement date marks the end of a more than two-year transition period in which we are thankful to George for his continued involvement and guidance in helping to ensure that Building Systems remains a consistent, stable, and reputable construction firm in the region! And during that transition, there was the continued hard work and dedication of many long-time Building Systems’ team members! Please join us in congratulating George on this exciting next chapter of his life!
Upon graduating from Virginia Tech with a degree in Civil Engineering, George pursued a career in construction management, starting in the field and advancing with various companies until he became a business owner by creating Building Systems. Afterwards, he also obtained MBA and Masters in Management degrees. While running the company he was also an Adjunct instructor in Construction Management at Frederick Community College for 20 years, served as chairman of the local ABC chapter, and served on numerous community-based boards and committees.
George owes his success to the many dedicated and skilled employees that have worked for the company for many years. Building Systems has a wide range of talents as a General Contractor in commercial and bridge construction. From George’s engineering background and his interest in history, historical bridge renovations also became a specialty.
George and his wife, Helen, worked together operating Building Systems for 35 years before her retirement in 2018. Now George will join Helen in retirement, allowing them both to spend more time with their two children and three grandchildren!
The expertise George has gathered over the decades is truly commendable. So is his sound business practices and unfettered integrity! We will all miss his wisdom, institutional knowledge of Building Systems, and so many construction-related matters upon his retirement.
The company George started almost 40 years ago will remain in good hands as a division of Lantz Construction and with continued opportunities for growth and prosperity under the direction of Tim Johnson, current Executive Vice President, Leon Schill, current Vice President & Operations Manager, its Superintendents, and the rest of the current Building Systems team members!
Please join us in wishing George the best of luck in his retirement and the enjoyment he will have getting to spend more time with family!
